Funny Dunnies

Australians love funny dunnies. Stories about funny dunnies are a unique part of our cultural heritage, a bit like shrimps on the barby and regaling English and American friends with stories about our summer thong tans and sunburn horrors. In the spirit of a picture telling a thousand words here are our 5 favourite funny dunnies from around the world.

Peekaboo on the loo

Looks safe from the outside but wait until you’re sat on the toilet inside! This mirrored toilet is for the secret exhibitionist and is definitely not the loo for anyone who suffers from stage fright. It’s actually an art installation outside the Tate Britain Gallery in London and according to artist Monica Bonvicini, anyone using this funny dunny “will need to defy their own embarrassment”. We think that this type of toilet would be perfect for a garden party or a festival.

Nature’s calling

Need a funny dunny for a bloke with a seriously green thumb or a flower fetish? These porcelain urinals are true works of art. Designed and made by San Francisco based artist, Clark Sorenson, they’ll set you back anywhere from $5000 to $10 000. We have a great range of cheap and locally made nature inspired, eco-friendly urinals – trees!

I feel the need, the need to read

Before smart phones, sitting on the loo used to be an ideal time to relax and read the newspaper or your favourite magazine. This funny dunny has inspired us to release a limited edition range of portable toilets for dads this Father’s Day. We’ll even provide a pen for the crossword puzzles.

Loo with a view

The ultimate poo with a view from this funny dunny. As part of a Coca Cola campaign in Japan, ski resorts renovated their toilets to resemble the ski slopes found outside. This toilet even has a pair of skis to put your feet in for the ultimate multitasking experience. You’re sure to feel on top of the world performing your morning ablutions staring down this run. We don’t think this design would work well in a portable toilet when combined with alcohol.

What do gamers do when they need to use the loo?

These video game toilets come from a 2007 gaming convention in Germany. At first glance these funny dunnies might look like a scene from 5 years into the future, but on reflection, it’s fairly obvious that games on smart phones hadn’t taken off 8 years ago when this convention was held. In more recent years a survey by the UK Daily Mail found that 45% of people who responded admitted that they played video games on their mobile phone while perched on the porcelain throne. We’re thinking of installing free wifi in our portable loos so you need never miss an important email or have your game freeze due to poor reception again.
