Considerations for a well-organised event

Australians love getting outdoors for special events, including community, sporting and cultural events. We always embrace the opportunity to take advantage of great weather, smell the fresh air, and spend time with friends and family.

Organising an event can be a huge task though. With so many people attending, you will feel a lot of pressure to ensure that everyone is happy and satisfied with their experience. As an event organiser, you will want to hear great conversations, laughter and people having fun, so here are some tips and tricks that you can use when planning a well-organised event.

Remember the weather

No matter what time of year it is, you cannot rely on the weather to be perfect. You will need to consider a range of different weather conditions for special events, including the sun, wind and rain. This is even a health and safety consideration, not just an issue of comfort. Nobody wants to suffer from dehydration and sunstroke, or be blown around by strong winds.

Try to offer alternative environments to get away from undesirable weather conditions. Try choosing a location with shady trees that people can escape from the sun under. You could consider an outdoor location with an indoor space nearby, or erect marquees for a temporary solution.

Fill hungry tummies

Everyone gets hungry and this is exactly what will happen if visitors to your event stay there for long enough. If you want them to be happy and hang around, they will need to be fed. Remember that different people like different types of food, so variety will always be appreciated. Drinks will also need to be provided, even if the event is not serving alcohol. Coffee carts are popular features of modern events, and fresh water for drinking is an absolute must.

Offer portable toilets

Dunnies are usually always needed in outdoor events that see a lot of new people coming into an area that does not have enough fixed facilities to cater for the population influx. People need to go, and they can’t hold on for long. They will also want them to be clean, hygienic, comfortable and quick.

Ensure you have enough portable toilets for the number of people you expect at your event. Nobody wants to wait in line too long when they are busting to go. Choose your location for dunnies carefully, and talk to the experts you are hiring them from, as they will be able to help you out with the information you need on running a great event.
